Ideas for the Ultimate Movie Marathon

For lovers of the Star Wars franchise, May 4th is a date to look forward to.  For all those who are stuck at home, wishing they could celebrate Star Wars Day elsewhere, we felt inspired to discuss ideas for the ultimate movie marathon.  Even if you aren’t a fan of Star Wars, keep reading!  Any movie marathon could benefit from these ideas.  If we have to stay home, we may as well keep it interesting.

Step 1: Pick a Theme

This could be anything.  Of course, Star Wars is an option but choose a theme based around films you enjoy.  You can choose whatever you want of course, but we’ve listed some ideas below for those who need some inspiration.

  1. Star Wars
  2. Harry Potter
  3. Chick Flicks
  4. Sports Movies (Forever Strong, Remember the Titans, The Blind Side, etc.)
  5. The Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit
  6. Disney Channel Original Movies
  7. Marvel/DC
  8. Jane Austen Adaptations
  9. Disney Princesses
  10. Pirates of the Caribbean

Step 2: Décor

You may not be in a position to get the perfect decorations but do what you can with what you have.  Work based on your theme.  You may even consider dressing up in your best cosplay or Disney Bound outfit to add to the mood.  Everybody’s looking for something to do right now so get your family/roommates/friends involved if possible.  Here are some general ideas:

  1. Make your own posters,
  2. Get out some fairy lights, or Christmas lights if they’re readily available, and create a ceiling of stars.
  3. Make paper chains, like in elementary school.
  4. Make a blanket fort.
  5. If you have some merchandise for your chosen franchise, set those items up around the room.

Step 3: Snacks

The best marathons have the best snacks.  You can of course always go for popcorn and other prepackaged snacks.  However, for people who like to get more creative, try making snacks that are applicable to your theme.  There are so many easy ideas online for franchise inspired snacks.  For example, you could make Reese’s cup and pretzel stick broomsticks if you’re watching Harry Potter, or make finger sandwiches if you’re watching Jane Austen adaptations.  Do whatever you would prefer, but don’t be afraid to get creative.  That way the movie marathon party can go beyond simply watching the movies.  You can make a whole project out of it to break up the monotony of staying at home.

Step 4: Enjoy!!

Now that you’re all set up, it’s time to enjoy the marathon!  So, sit back, relax, and enjoy some of your favorite movies.

Hopefully the above ideas prove useful to you.  This is a very difficult time for all of us.  We hope it won’t last much longer but you just never know.  So, take control of what you can.  Allow yourself time to do fun things in your own home, instead of worrying all of the time.  Great memories can be made during these times, but you have to be willing to make them.
